Well, her teacher told me last week they were starting a new practice for birthdays where the child would do a little birthday interview and receive a blessing from the pastor. And parents were invited. So Matt and I were thrilled to get a little insight in her world at school, which remains basically mysterious to us!
The first thing they did was let her put 5 coins in the donation basket because she was 5 years old.
Then they did a little questionnaire with her. She answered the question "what are you most looking forward to about being 5?" the same way as she did with me when I did her birthday interview at home. Apparently she is looking forward to taking a trip to London! (Spoiler alert: not gonna happen kid! I have one trip half-planned for this winter and a few ideas for the Spring/Summer, but London is not the cards this year I'm afraid! Also, the sudden interest in maroon is all thanks to her Uncle Lloyd and his Aggie-loving ways!)
And then Father Art said a birthday prayer for her.
After a Bible lesson and some songs, they went around the room and let the kids ask the pastor to pray for things or people. Here were the prayer requests:
- Birthdays (this wasn't Olivia asking but once the little girl made the request, almost all the other kids nodded approvingly)
- Mommies
- Daddies
- Parties (this was a reluctant prayer agreement from the pastor, given the aforementioned birthday request)
- School
It was a sweet little ceremony for Olivia and I'm so glad we were able to attend!
