Olivia and I drove up on Friday morning. She was such a doll in the car on the way up - she slept most of the time and when she wasn't sleeping, she was just quietly listening to her CD.
We stopped for lunch at McDonalds - I wasn't planning on introducing Olivia to fast-food so early on, but a girl's gotta eat. And choices in Madisonville are quite limited! Needless to say, she was a fan of fries & chicken nuggets.
On a completely unrelated note, how cute are her Tiny Toms?!
We finally got to Dallas and headed straight to Bethany's house. Palmer was still napping, so Olivia got a little bonding time with Aunt Bethany. It was so sweet because my usually shy daughter went right up to her and let Bethany carry her around. Love!
When Palmer woke up, we headed to the Dallas Arboretum to check out the Chihuly exhibit. All the sculptures are so beautiful and amazing.
Olivia was less impressed with the exhibit and more interested in escaping from her stroller and running around. Palmer was similarly minded. So, Bethany and I chased after them until we were beat and then headed home to regroup.
At home, the kids played outside and Palmer introduced Olivia to the wonder of the YBike. Matt found out about this bike at a toy show a few weeks ago and came home raving about it. I was hesitant to get one because they are freaking expensive, but after seeing how much O liked it, I am guessing it will be under our Christmas tree in a few weeks!
That evening, we went to a neighborhood Christmas event and it was so cute! The kids were mesmerized by the choir and dancers.
The next morning, we were packing up to head to the Christmas parade but unfortunately Olivia took a nasty fall on some concrete steps. It was horrifying for both of us (I'm pretty sure I cried more than she did!), but thankfully she is okay, save for some scrapes on that pretty little face of hers. Major mommy lesson learned - you can't take your eyes off her for a second!
But by the time the parade started, there were no more tears and I think she really loved watching all the floats.
Olivia was WIPED after the parade and fell asleep almost immediately in her stroller. So we let her nap (she slept for 2.5 hours in that stroller until I finally woke her up!) and then headed to the zoo with Erica, Greg and Blythe. Our last trip to the zoo didn't go so well, so I was anxious about how this one would be. Well, 6 weeks makes all the difference because she loved it! She was looking at all the animals and kept pointing and trying to say their names.
And she sat on the carousel and loved that too!
Then we all headed back to the Gannons for some play time, food and then headed out to their neighborhood Christmas party. Poor little Olivia was pretty tired by this point, but she was a champ and sat in her stroller very quietly (and apparently showed off how flexible she is!)
We had a great trip and hope to make it an annual tradition!
