Neighborhood Egg Hunt

On Saturday afternoon we attended our neighborhood Easter party. This was the first year we’ve been and it was a lot of fun and nice to meet our neighbors. The egg hunt didn’t start until about an hour into the party, so Matt and I had our hands full keeping Olivia entertained while THIS waited across the street:

We passed the time by having a snack, petting the neighbor’s dog, and watching the big kids in the jumpy house (PS – I’m pretty sure that this is the last year I’m going to be able to keep Olivia out of the jump house, she was dying to get in!).

And when she just couldn't wait any longer, we let her sit in the "egg yard" but made her promise not to touch!

Soon they called for all the kids to line up in age order. Olivia would only stand by the big girls and looked so pleased (and tiny) standing there next to them. But, it only took a few seconds for the novelty to wear off and she soon grew bored of them and went and sat down by herself!
When they finally released the kids, Olivia “ran” (as only an 18 month old can!) to the yard and grabbed the first egg she saw, sat down and opened it, tried a jelly bean, spat it out, put it back in the egg and put the egg back on the ground! So…we had a quick lesson in egg hunting etiquette and she was back in the game. She still took the time to open each egg she found before putting it in the basket, but I was fine with that because I was never going to let her eat all that candy anyways! As she was finishing, one of the older boys looked pathetically at Olivia’s basket and said, with almost a disappointed tone, “Here…she can have some of mine.” So nice! We thanked him but said no.
Examining her loot and showing daddy.

Then we came home, ate dinner and put out a carrot and some jelly beans for E. Bunny. (She must have acquired a taste for jelly beans since the hunt because she kept stealing some of poor Mr. Bunny’s!)
